Teacher Course Conductor
Course length: 15 hours
The Swim Academy Teacher Course Conductor course provides candidates with the Swim Academy philosophy, skills and knowledge necessary to plan, deliver and facilitate a Full Teacher Course, Stages Course, Upgrade, and Renewal Inservice in accordance with NCCP, and Swim Academy standards.
Prerequisites
- Application process through ICS National Headquarters
- Swim Academy Teacher
- Two years coaching / teaching / administrative experience
- NCCP, WSIT, LSIT are an asset.
Course Outcomes
- Swim Academy Teacher Course Conductor Certification
- Ability to facilitate all Swim Academy training courses and in services
- One year Swim Academy teaching insurance
Evaluation Process
Teacher Course Conductor candidates are certified upon the completion of a co-facilitation with a certified Swim Academy TCC.
Full Teacher Course
Course length: 17 hours
Designed for candidates with no previous swimming teacher certification, the Swim Academy Full Teacher course provides the Swim Academy philosophy, fundamental knowledge and skill base for teaching Swim Academy lessons. Preschool, Child and Youth, as well as Adult lesson instruction is included.
Prerequisites
- 15 years+, and
- Current Bronze Cross or NLS Award
Course Outcomes
- Swim Academy Teacher Certification
- Ability to apply for NCCP Equivalency
- One year Swim Academy teaching insurance
Evaluation Process
Candidates must assist a minimum of 5 classes under the supervision of a certified Swim Academy teacher and teach a minimum of 5 classes unassisted under the supervision of a certified Swim Academy Teacher.
Teacher Candidates are certified upon the completion of a competency-based evaluation by a certified Swim Academy Master Evaluator.
Stages Course
Course length: 8-10 Hours
The Swim Academy Stages course is for those candidates teaching in a facility which runs the Swim Academy Stages program only. This course provides the fundamental knowledge and skill base to teach Swim Academy Stages and Adult lessons.

For candidates with a current Instructor Award, the Swim Academy Upgrade course provides candidates with the Swim Academy philosophy, theory and teaching methods necessary to plan, and deliver Swim Academy lessons in accordance with Swim Academy and NCCP standards.

- 15 years+, and
- Current Bronze Cross or NLS Award, and
- Current NCCP, WSI, LSI or YMCA Instructor award
Course Outcomes
- Swim Academy Teacher Certification
- One year Swim Academy teaching insurance
